Frequently asked questions

Working with a Professional Organizer:

Q:  What is a Professional Organizer?

A:  “A Professional Organizer enhances the lives of clients by designing systems and processes using organizing principles and through transferring organizing skills. A Professional Organizer also educates the public on organizing solutions and the resulting benefits.” -National Association of Professional Organizers

Q:  Why should I hire a Professional Organizer to help me?  Couldn’t I do this on my own?

A:  The question comes down to this; If you can do it, have you done it yet?  If not, what’s stopping you?  Many people can offer a quick bandage to get around such road blocks (i.e. Put everything in pretty baskets!), but without determining the cause of the disorganization, nothing will be cured.  Hiring an OriJenelle Organizer will help you determine what’s preventing you from getting organized (i.e. lack of space, time management, life change, work flow) and help you find the “key” to curing those ailments.  Your OriJenelle Organizer will provide you with the guidance, motivation and professional experience to help you complete all of your organizing tasks in an organized and efficient manner, so that you can overcome those barriers that are preventing you from being your optimal organized self.

Q:  I don’t have a lot of money, can I still work with a Professional Organizer?

A:  Yes.  At OriJenelle Organizing we are more than willing to work within your budget, whether that means meeting on a less frequent basis, or getting projects started that you will be able to complete on your own.  Financial concerns should not be a reason for you to put off your newly organized life.

Q:  Will a Professional Organizer force me to get rid of everything?

A:  No.  You can be reassured that OriJenelle Organizers will not force you to get rid of anything that you do not want to get rid of, nor will we get rid of anything without your permissionYou will have the final say in what stays and what goes.  Your OriJenelle Organizer will be there right by your side to help guide you in making those difficult decisions.

Someone Else See My Mess??

Q.  How can I hire a Professional Organizer when I’m too embarrassed to let anyone see my mess!

A.  There is no need to be embarrassed when working with an OriJenelle Organizer, as we are in the industry of working amongst a mess on a day to day basis.  In fact most clients are surprised that when an OriJenelle Organizer comes to your home to the first time, we request that you don’t pick up at all!  We want to see your mess!  Otherwise, how are we to determine what works for you and what doesn’t if it’s all been “hidden” from our view?  We will help you get over that hump of embarrassment and welcome you to a new sense of pride in your space.  (And to answer that question in your head, “No, you are not likely the worst we’ve seen!”)

Q.  Will anyone know I’m working with a Professional Organizer?

A.  Only if you tell themAll information discussed and seen (i.e. personal documents) during working sessions is kept completely confidential between you and your organizer.

The Organizing Process:

Q:  How long will it take to organize my things?

A:  The time for every organizing project is different and will vary from client to client.  It is nearly impossible to give time estimates with out diving in and beginning the project, as many projects uncover unexpected “hidden” projects within them.

Q:  Will I be forced to buy certain products?

A:  No.  One unique philosophy of OriJenelle Organizers is that we will first try to utilize the things that you own to help you get organized, before making suggestions on organizing products you can buy.  But of course, if there is an organizing product that our organizers feel you will benefit from, we will make such recommendations when appropriate.  (After all you are paying for their expertise!)  However, it is up to you on whether or not you choose to purchase those products.

Q:  I have some concerns about “other people’s systems” working for me.  Will I be forced to use a system that I don’t like?

A:  No.  That is the great part about working with a professional organizer!  OriJenelle Organizers are up to speed on the latest industry trends, whether it be product or process ideas.  We do the research so you don’t have to!  We have a multitude of organizing resources at our disposal and if something doesn’t work, we’ll try something elseOriJenelle Organizers have lots of “tricks in their bag” so together you and your organizer will find the exact custom solution that fits your lifestyle to cut down the clutter.

Q:   I run out of energy and lose stamina when working on projects.  Will I be forced to work harder than I am able?

A:  NoOriJenelle Organizers will never push you further than you are comfortable with.  We will instead be there, right by your side, to keep you on track and motivated throughout your sessions together.

Q:  How long are organizing sessions?

A:  The Needs Assessment (the first appointment) is approximately 1 hour.  Initial Organizing Sessions and Continuing Organizing Sessions are a minimum of three hours (per session); as anything less than three hours is typically not enough time to make a good dent into achieving our goals.  (See the “Services” page for more details.)

Q.  Who can OriJenelle Organizing help?

A:  OriJenelle Organizing works with clients from all walks of life: young professionals, students, first time home owners, merging couples, teachers, crafters, families, small business owners, or anyone overwhelmed by clutter!

Q:  Why should I choose OriJenelle Organizing to help me get organized?

A:  OriJenelle Organizing is different because we pride ourselves in getting to know our clients so that we can find the unique “key” to their specific organizing needs.  Just as one key does not work on every door, one organizing solution does not work for every individual.  This philosophy allows us to design a custom “key” fit for you so that you can unlock your organizing potential.  In addition, all OriJenelle Organizers are all active members of the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO).
